Montserrat has had several past incarnartions, but the last and definitive one was founded in 1996, in Camaguey city, Cuba, by the talented vocalist Nelson Comas and local guitar hero Adolfo "Fito" Martin. The purpose was to create a heavy metal sound in Spanish that would also reflects our own influences and tastes in metal. Today, the band counts with 5 members: Roseliz (keyboards), Pachi (drums), Fito (guitar), Nelson (vocals) and Luisi (bass).

The influences are manifold: from Ozzy, Scorpions, Black Sabbath, and Whitesnake to Death, Metallica, Dream Theater and Nevermore. Of course, our own Afro-Cuban and Spanish musical roots were also added to the recipe. The final result is an original and explosive blend of our musical tastes; but above of everything we still want play true metal, as heavy metal is our true identity!

Always on the fight.

"For a long time we’ve been playing with old and refurbished Russian gear, but we've always tried to do good music despite all the problems", Nelson Comas proudly says. "Strong will and perseverance: those are our main assets", explains Fito. Heavy metal is a marginalized genre in Cuba, but that's only one of the many obstacles we have to overcome in our daily life. Nevertheless, the few but highly remarkable gigs that Montserrat has played in Havana have elevated the band to an almost mythical level. Our hundred of fans always ask for more concerts. We're here to please them, so it's time the world knew about one of the most valuable gems of the underground Cuban metal scene.
